Kim Greenwood

Instruments: Vocals, Ukulele, Piano/Keyboards details
Kim is a multi-faceted artist whose work spans genres including jazz, pop, musical theatre, and classical. An actor at heart, her expressiveness shines through in her performances with her warm, smooth vocals evoking images of singers from bygone eras.

Kim's professional career began three decades ago at Grafton St. Dinner Theatre in Halifax, NS. Since then, she has performed with many ensembles from duo to full orchestra, across the country, and internationally. Kim has created, produced, and starred in several projects including Ella at 100, All About That Verse, and The Carpenters and Burt Bacharach. Her most recent venture, in collaboration with Diane Pancel, is Doris and Judy Together, celebrating the incredible musical legacies of Doris Day and Judy Garland in honour of their 100th birthdays. Kim is also the lead vocalist with the Commodores Big Band, Victoria's own big band dance band. Kim has performed with many of the West Coast’s finest jazz musicians, including Phil Dwyer, Ashley Wey, Louis Rudner, Attila Fias, Kelby MacNayr, Pablo Cardenas, Karel Roessingh, Joey Smith, Barrie Sorensen, Roy Styffe, Tony Genge, Nick Apivor, Buff Allen, and more.

In 2022, Kim stepped into fresh territory as music director for Attitude Theatre's highly successful production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, based on the life of legendary Billie Holiday. In addition to her musical duties, Kim helped coordinate the production, bringing together the theatre and jazz worlds, creating a truly unique and memorable show, making it the first licensed theatrical production ever staged at the iconic Hermann's Jazz Club in downtown Victoria.

Kim has also started her journey into the world of recording, having released two self-produced singles from her home studio on streaming platforms. She has also had the exceptional honour of serving as a Juno Awards Judge. Kim is also the curator for the wonderful Jazz Evensong series at St. Mary's Oak Bay.

Originally trained in the Western classical tradition, Kim graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and studied for several years under renowned vocal pedagogue Selena James. Some of her favourite credits include alto soloist in Brahms' Alto Rhapsody, Op. 53, Miss Todd in Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief, La Zia Principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica, alto soloist in Handel's Messiah, and Robert Fleming's The Confession Stone.

Kim’s passion for performing and educating have always gone hand in hand, each influencing and informing the other. She opened her private studio, Vivid Voice, in 2000, was on faculty at The Canadian College of Performing Arts from 2012 to 2021 and was also a lead instructor for the online voice teaching platform Singdaptive from 2020 to 2022. Kim wears numerous hats as a sought-after workshop instructor, masterclass teacher, mentor, adjudicator, performance coach, vocal coach, and vocal technician for all genres.
